ABOUT ME
I was Art Director at Macmillan Books for 18 extraordinary years, overseeing a team of 20 designers and was proud enough to be part of the success of so many of todays prestigious illustrators and authors including the phenomena that is Axel Schefler and Julia Donaldson's The Gruffallo. As well as exciting concept initiatives such as the million selling Buddy Buggies series and Fiction success the Princess Diaries. I have extensive experience of commissioning high profile globally successful illustrators like Chris Riddell, Tony Ross and Jill Murphy and work with many of the best loved children’s authors Frank Cotterell-Boyce, Meg Cabot and Judy Blume. Working previously at Penguin books, where I worked on Adults and Children's books, I was lucky enough to work with Quentin Blake and Roald Dahl and Alan Ahlberg. I have also been privileged enough to sit on the judging panel of the Macmillan Prize for many years, where we discovered such award-winning talent as Emily Gravitt, Rebecca Patterson and Joel Stewart.
Now as an established freelancer, I can provide extensive experience and a passion for book publishing and a sensibility for both literary and commercial books. Specialising in cover, brochure, poster design and all Sales and Marketing promo material, I can generate fresh, exciting, ongoing creative ideas in an increasingly competitive and complex environment. I have a thorough understanding of the aesthetic, content, and format strengths with the experience of handling the demands of a well-established consumer-focused publishing business. I work effectively with creative, marketing, sales, and other professionals across all levels of your organisation and balance creative integrity with business integrity and pride myself as a good communicator, informal and fun to work with.
